  2. 2,840 Mirai vehicles will need a software update to fix a problem with their fuel cell system.

    The Mirai can experience a failure of the fuel cell system when a driver goes down a long hill with cruise control engaged and then hits the gas pedal to quickly accelerate. Toyota says the car could quit because the voltage from the fuel cell boost converter can go beyond its limits and stop the fuel cell system.

    The software update should take about 30 minutes to complete, just don't say it's part of a recall. Toyota would prefer to call it a customer satisfaction campaign. 🙄

  3. A new lawsuit has a suggestion for Toyota.

    Maybe it's time to start calling their plug-in hybrid the _Prius Plug-in-every-few-miles. A Toyota Prius Plug-In mileage lawsuit has been filed concerning a 2012 Prius Plug-In that allegedly gets only 8 miles on a single battery charge. Plaintiff Richard Rosenbaum says he purchased the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In to save gas when driving 12 miles for work, then discovered the car wouldn't travel that far on a single battery charge.

    We all know EPA estimates and MPG numbers posted by manufacturers are best case scenarios, often conducted in labs. But a 40% reduction (8 miles vs advertised 13) is a tough pill to swallow. Especially when one of the primary reasons for buying the car was to get to your job, 12 miles away, on one electric charge.…

  5. Toyota once said that the Prius is "harmony between man, nature and machine" but that all sounds a bit out of tune to Greg Reynante.

    Mr. Reynante filed a lawsuit alleging Toyota deliberately misled consumers about the fuel efficiency of the 2004-2007 Prius. The lawsuit says the manufacturer ignored factors such as weather, air conditioning and other things that can hurt MPGs. Toyota says it followed the EPA guidelines.…
